Description of Opportunity:

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Caring for residents with compassion and empathy in a homelike environment. Providing hands on support to residents through maintenance programs designed to preserve or improve their strength, mobility, independence and ability to perform daily activities.
  • This position reports to the Health and Wellness Director
  • Follows/ considers the guidance of PT and OT for resident programs
  • Develops individualized care plans to assist residents with mobility, range of motion, transfers, positioning, ambulation, range of motion exercises and other approved restorative activities to engage residents at all stages of the dementia journey.
  • Reinforces techniques and routines established by nursing, therapy or other healthcare professionals.
  • Documents restorative services and resident participation accurately and timely.
  • Maintains residents’ dignity, privacy, safety and confidentiality.
  • Establishes positive relationships with residents, families, and other team members.
  • Encourages resident participation through communication, encouragement, patience and positive reinforcement.
  • Assists care team with resident needs when restorative duties are completed or as directed by the supervisor.
  • Attends required training and participates in on going education.
  • Maintains a clean safe environment and ensures proper use and maintenance of fitness center equipment.
  • Assist with mealtimes
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Enrich the lives of the residents daily

Essential Functions:

  • Must be able to communicate and function in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, bend, lift, push, pull, stoop, walk, and move frequently during working hours. Must be able to lift 40 lbs. floor to waist, lift 10 lbs. waist to shoulder, life and carry 40 lbs. and push/pull 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.

  • Understand how to approach and communicate with all residents who are cognitively impaired.
  • Treat residents, family members and other team members with dignity and respect while responding to their needs.
  • Maintain and sustain a safe community and workplace.
  • Follow Cotter House Worthington Policies, Procedure, and Manuals.
  • Accept other duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED is preferred
  • STNA certification is preferred but not required

Work Experience:

  • Experience in senior living (preferably in dementia care) is preferred but not required
